Only full-encased bullets or "environmentally friendly" bullets. Something to do with the water tables being so high Out here in the west where real men shoot, nobody cares. Quoted: I'd bet it is the lead. Some ranges forbid steel core but FMJ? I've seen that rule before. I think it is because at one time quite a bit of FMJ steel core surplus was being imported and sold.
If they didn't allow FMJ then they wouldn't have the steel core bullets damaging their bullet traps. Wasn't a lot of the older Norinco 7. Quoted: I've seen that rule before. Did you call and nicely ask them why? Does the range have metal traps or dirt berms? Shooting paper or steel targets? Hell you can shoot fmj 5. I know as far as shooting steel targets The JHP on the other hand will open up on impact instead of tearing clean through. On a range where you are shooting paper, I have no idea why they won't let you shoot FMJ.
It is my humble opinion that it stems from pure ignorance. There is a fancy pants shooting indoor range in my town that doesn't allow ss but claimed at one point you can shoot 50bmg there. They changed that rule presumably after someone taught them the hard way. This same range always made me shoot on an inside lane because i was 18 at the time so i didnt shoot up the wall with my pss, my postage stamp groups made em realize they were dumping on me for no reason.
Just dont shoot there. Again I say Every range I have been to in Oregon allows any type of ammo you want. Could be the FMJ might penetrate the thin steel plates???
Quoted: Did you call and nicely ask them why? Quoted: Insurance? If they are using dirt berms about the only reasons I can think of are 1 They're assholes. Tell me about it. There are several ranges within 45 minutes of me. However to go shooting I drive nearly TWO hours to a range that allows FMJ, rapid firing, and anything pretty much as long as you are safe about it, and keep your rounds going into the berm.
I can practice drills and whanot. The other ranges dont allow FMJ, more than 1 shot ever seconds, and are much more expensive. A lot of this has to do with the "standardized" set of range rules the NRA came out with years ago.
Same thing with human like targets not allowed at many ranges. I was told by the range master in Ft. Fucking insurance co's fuck up everything. I have the same problem here in Florida. He said it had to do with the insurance. I think its because FMJ is more prone to ricochet.
Nearly all ranges around Dallas have a policy against FMJ, most push there own range safe ammo. Quoted: I have the same problem here in Florida. Quoted: Hell you can shoot fmj 5. Last month I was visiting my mom for Christmas in San Antonio. One of my cousins wanted to go target practice with my XD9 and M4.
The clerk said we had to use their ammo because it was range safe and all they had for 9mm and 5. It was a indoor shooting range that used an inclined waterfall stop. He told us to use pistol side for both, and it was 40ft long.
FMJ round increase penetration capacity of the bullets. They also allow you to knock down enemies with more damage when you shoot through surfaces. The increased penetration also allows you to knock down and destroy enemy equipment set to trap your team. This is probably the most important part of knowing what the FMJ bullets. Used correctly, they can make a very tight game on paper look like an absolute massacre.
The reason FMJ bullets are so popular is not only the increased penetration of the round but how it enables a player to take advantage of it. The whole point of using FMJ is that you have an increased chance to shoot through surfaces. You should note that this does not do more damage to your opponent. Obviously, this means an outdoor range. I was pleased to discover many possibilities in my area until I learned that many of them banned FMJ.
The reasons I was given ranged from FMJ tearing up their backstops to hitting rocks, sparking and catching fire. Needless to say, I'm confused by this. Obviously, people can run their ranges however they want but banning FMJ on a long distance range seems odd.
What am I missing here? DelawarePatriot Alpha Founding Member. Typically, ranges will ban steel-core FMJ That sounds kind of odd! KLGunner Moderator Staff member. Robar Alpha Founding Member. I would also understand not allowing bi-metal jackets. They are more likely to cause damage and sparks. One of the ranges in my area also bans FMJ, so I do not frequent their range.
