I don't find a way to modify the post above so here is an update. Found these numbers in Ward's Automotive Yearbook. The earlier post may have been numbers by calendar year, these are by model year. I am also adding the percent with AWD.
I wonder how many I6 vs V8??? I have the V8 total numbers but cannot find anywhere the split between 2 and 4 wheel drive. Also the numbers from Ward's are given in percent of total production. Depending the rounding of numbers the percent number could be off by several vehicles. Where do you buy accessories for your Buick? Right here in the forum store! I also noticed somewhere that the first year V8 was an aluminum block. Still, for all the corporate commonality, the Rainier does enjoy one big distinction. During its debut year, it'll be the only version of this SUV that combines the option of V-8 grunt, supplied by GM's 5. As always, we caution you that handy is a relative term here-think handiness among Clydesdales rather than rodeo barrel racers, particularly in Buick's iteration of this vehicle, which sets cushy ride as a priority over brisk responses.
The press kit speaks of "a very nimble driving machine," but this is nimble measured on a squishier scale than our own-a brand of nimble, further, that regards numb, slow steering 3. But we were discussing grunt. Even with all sorts of content, the pound short-wheelbase Rainier with V-8 power and all-wheel drive weighed pounds less than the long-wheelbase Chevy TrailBlazer EXT V-8 we tested last December. The V-8 TrailBlazer needed 8.
The Rainier hit 60 much sooner-in 7. Some of the weight difference noted above is attributable to the Rainier's extra cylinders, but a lot of it can be chalked up to the acoustical material crammed into the fire wall, roof pillars, and doors, as well as the new laminated glass employed for the windshield and front side windows. The Buick Rainier was sold for the model years of All told, about 60, vehicles bearing this mountainous moniker were made by General Motors.
This meant an interior heavy on leather and wood, and lots of luxury options. Tiger Woods, in less controversial days of 15 years ago, appeared in print and TV ads for the Buick Rainier. And while Captain Vancouver is well-known for naming the mountain and plenty of other things around here, the man behind naming the Buick Rainier has been fairly anonymous for nearly 20 years.
Now, thanks to the General Motors Archives in Sterling Heights, Michigan and an archivist there named Christo Datini, the story can be revealed for the very first time. While on vacation sometime around , Davis and his wife made their first visit to Seattle to see their daughter who was living here at the time. Davis, 74 and retired from GM for fifteen years, says the weather in Seattle was good, which made for a memorable — and inspiring — moment.
The day they flew home from Seattle to Michigan was cloudy, but their jetliner flew right by the cone of Rainier sticking up above the clouds. Images of the mountain stuck with him.
